This is one of my favourite go-to snacks – I always have them ready to eat in the fridge, and the best thing about them is that they’re so quick to prepare and so delicious.
I really would never have thought to pair these two ingredients together, so full credit goes to Deliciously Ella for inspiring me to try it.
Preparation is so simple, it really is just a case of removing the stone from the dates (or you can buy them already pitted), and filling them with your nut-butter of choice. In this example I use almond butter as I believe this type works particularly well with the taste of the date as they’re both middle-eastern flavours, but you can also use other varieties, such as cashew or walnut butter. I lastly sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg to finish and enjoy!
Dates are delicious, versatile and good for you, here are some of the numerous benefits to incorporating dates into your snacks and cooking:
- Did you know that dates are the most potassium rich food source? Even more than bananas! Potassium is essential in control blood-sugar levels.
- Dates are filling. Have an uncontrollable sweet-tooth? Dates are a great way to healthily satisfy sugar cravings, plus the high fibre content will keep you feeling fuller for longer.
- Dates are packed with anti-oxidants, helping the body to destroy free-radicals which cause cell damage.
- Dates can help rid the body of bad fats and reduce the risk of cancer
